Brain age gap estimation using attention-based ResNet method for Alzheimer’s disease detection

Abstract
This
study
investigates
the
correlation
between
brain
age
and
chronological
in
healthy
individuals
using
MRI
images,
aiming
to
identify
potential
biomarkers
for
neurodegenerative
diseases
like
Alzheimer's.
To
achieve
this,
a
novel
attention-based
ResNet
method,
3D-Attention-Resent-SVR,
is
proposed
accurately
estimate
distinguish
Cognitively
Normal
(CN)
Alzheimer’s
disease
(AD)
by
computing
gap
(BAG).
Unlike
conventional
methods,
which
often
rely
on
single
datasets,
our
approach
addresses
biases
employing
four
datasets
training
testing.
The
results,
based
combined
dataset
from
public
sources
comprising
3844
data
points,
demonstrate
model's
efficacy
with
mean
absolute
error
(MAE)
of
2.05
estimation.
Moreover,
generalizability
showcased
three
testing
separate
one,
yielding
remarkable
MAE
2.4.
Furthermore,
leveraging
BAG
as
sole
biomarker,
method
achieves
an
accuracy
92%
AUC
0.87
Alzheimer's
detection
ADNI
dataset.
These
findings
underscore
assisting
early
monitoring,
emphasizing
strong
AD.

Introduction
Early
diagnosis
of
oral
squamous
cell
carcinoma
can
greatly
improve
treatment
success
rate
and
patient
survival.
Although
Optical
Coherence
Tomography
(OCT)
based
Angiography
(OCTA)
is
a
promising
in
vivo
technique
imaging,
there
need
for
objective
assessment
microvasculature.
Methods
This
study
aimed
to
demonstrate
comprehensive
methodology
quantitative
assessing
OCTA
intraoral
scanning
results
provide
measurable,
reproducible
data
avoid
subjective
visual
interpretations.
Data
were
collected
from
37
healthy
subjects
total
across
four
sites—buccal
mucosa
(n
=
32),
labial

mouth

non-invasive
swept-source
OCT
system.
