In countries and regions where Asian elephants are distributed, human–elephant conflict has become an important ecological socio-economic issue. As one of the major habitats elephants, China faces severe challenges. Based on theory planned behavior risk perception theory, this study takes survey data 449 smallholder farmers in elephant distribution areas Pu’er City, Yunnan Province as samples uses Tobit model mediating effect to empirically analyze impact farmers’ land use efficiency its mechanism. The results show following: (1) a significant negative efficiency. A one-unit increase decreases by 250.34 CNY/mu. (2) Social networks positively moderate efficiency, further strengthening perception. (3) From perspective mechanism, increases likelihood changing their behavior. Farmers with high tend reduce agricultural capital investment, which turn leads decline view this, paper puts forward suggestions terms monitoring control, increasing support for production, guiding rational social network communication, providing theoretical practical guidance alleviating improving resource
