Abstract Purpose This study investigated the challenges and coping strategies among Malaysian HNC patients who are still verbal communicators with respect to eating, swallowing, communication habits. Methods Ten (nine males, age range 49–73) were recruited from a single hospital in Malaysia. In-depth individual interviews (IDIs) conducted by trained graduate research assistant guided semi-structured interview guide. Transcribed data IDIs analyzed using thematic analysis, following six-step approach described Braun Clarke. Results Respondents identified several key issues that sorted into three themes: (1) “You eat because you have survive”: losing pleasure food, (2) “I only talked about what I wanted”: becoming different communicator, (3) “…health back. That is hope”: negotiating life after cancer. Patients reported change eating habits, loss of when behaviour talking, societal withdrawal. Most mechanisms such as resorting religion or shared experiences other cancer patients. Conclusion highlights need assess late effects its treatment during each long-term follow-up visit on psychosocial health patients, focusing their mastication swallowing decreases vocal quality. Therefore, speech language pathology services crucial for addressing HNC.

Importance Adverse effects of cancer and its treatment may hamper return to work (RTW) among patients with head neck (HNC). Objectives To investigate RTW HNC from end 5 years after associations sociodemographic, clinical, work-related, personal, lifestyle, physical, psychological factors cancer-related symptoms. Design, Setting Participants This prospective, longitudinal, multicenter cohort study used data the Netherlands Quality Life Biomedical cohort. focused on younger than 65 (with a subanalysis 60 years) time diagnosis (March 2014 June 2018) (January 2019 July 2023). Data analysis occurred April 2023 August 2024. Exposure Standard clinical care. Main Outcomes Measures Work status was measured at 3 6 months, 1, 2, 3, 4, using an adjusted version Productivity Cost Questionnaire. Cox regression analyses were performed (baseline, months) associated RTW. Results A total 184 (mean [SD] age, 55.4 [7.0] years; 146 men [79%]) included 77 (42%) had oropharyngeal cancer. increased 26% (42 160 individuals) months 65% (89 137 1 year, which it reduced 52% (51 98 years. At treatment, additional 28 participants (29%) retired. Minor surgery (vs major surgery) faster onwards (hazard ratio [HR], 2.73; 95% CI, 1.17-6.37). Older age (HR, 0.97; 0.94-0.999) more fatigue 0.99; 0.98-0.995) slower onwards. also 0.96; 0.93-0.998). Among 127 years, 72% (47 treatment. Advanced tumor stage 0.59; 0.39-0.90) 0.98-0.999) in this group. Conclusion relevance found that majority returned within year certain sociodemographic symptoms These results inform provide insight into potential targets, such as fatigue, improve

This study aimed to translate and validate the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Head & Neck (FACT-HN) in a Serbian-speaking population, assessing its psychometric properties utility evaluating quality life head neck cancer patients. The research focuses on determining translated questionnaire's reliability, validity, cultural relevance. A total 106 patients completed FACT-HN, along with other validated instruments, including EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-HN43, CES-D, GAD-7. translation followed standard internationally accepted procedure. Psychometric analyses were conducted using confirmatory exploratory factor analysis, Pearson correlations, reliability measures such as Cronbach's alpha intraclass correlation coefficients. Serbian version FACT-HN showed excellent internal consistency across all subscales, ranging from 0.70 0.89. Confirmatory analysis confirmed five-factor structure. Strong correlations observed between QoL measures, particularly QLQ-C30 QLQ-HN43. Convergent validity was satisfactory for components except Social Well-Being component. is valid reliable tool It provides comprehensive assessment physical, social, emotional, functional well-being, making it valuable clinical applications populations. Further needed assess sensitivity longitudinal treatment-related changes.

Introduction Chemoradiotherapy in head and neck cancer patients has a curative intent but often deteriorates nutritional status leading to sarcopenia cachexia. Methods In this observational single-centered study, prospective evaluation of several biochemical anthropometrical parameters, weight loss, handgrip strength, visual analogue scale appetite, questionnaires associated with malnutrition & quality life body composition (obtained by Bioelectrical Impedance Vector Analysis) was performed before after high-dose cisplatin chemotherapy combined radiotherapy 60 affected cancer. Oral supplements were used reach the correct number daily calories proteins. Results discussion All completed as planned 96,4% them did not interrupt for toxicity, reaching total dose at least 200mg/m2. Despite rapid deterioration during treatment, support helped maintain (or some cases improve) anthropometric parameters from end chemoradiotherapy following 3 months. Low prealbumin albumin pre-treatment led higher risk toxicities consequent reduction intensity, whereas treatment seems be an interesting predicting factor disease free overall survival (p=0.007; p=0.015).
