The rapid increase in population growth and subsequent urbanization industrialization has led to a global water demand. Hence, due the challenges associated with accessing fresh water, desalination is increasingly being adopted meet About 61% of world's capacity made up seawater desalination, whilst 30% brackish desalination. Half accounted for by membrane which mostly uses reverse osmosis remaining half primarily utilized thermal multi-stage flash distillation multi-effect distillation. Although plays an indisputable role providing steady supply regions where freshwater resources are limited, it diverse effects on environment. Depending type feed-water used, method employed, how waste brine managed, process distinct variable environmental consequences. aim this review was provide comprehensive information technologies their impacts. To achieve this, current demand production were analyzed. This contains important understanding choosing environmentally friendly provision sustainable supply.
