This paper summarizes the potential of polyoxometalate (POM)-based catalysts in view pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and recent advances that took place this field. POMs are anionic clusters transition metals, which exhibit unique characteristics such as high catalytic activity multi-electron redox properties. Recently, they have been explored by some research groups for degrading antibiotics compounds (PCs) from contaminated water matrix. Several modifications POM, along with their composite formation new-age materials like g-C3N4 reduced graphene oxide (RGO), led to novel photocatalysts, also reported active destroy PCs. These promising revealed efficiency complete destruction these recalcitrant within a short reaction time showed good reusability characteristics. Among widely used PCs, notable ones include tetracycline (TC), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), ciprofloxacin (CIP), etc. Most articles cited here centered on TC degradation followed other drugs. The effects different operating conditions, efficiency, mechanism stability aspects various POM-based discussed. current knowledge gap area bright future perspectives is highlighted. description will provide valuable insight community regarding capability eliminate antibiotics, well designing highly efficient sustainable future.
