Abstract The ternary chalcogenide ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) has been synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method in which the carcinogen thiacetamide, universally used as precursor, been, for first time, replaced successfully with harmless thiourea. ZIS photocatalyst partial oxidation of different aromatic alcohols to their corresponding aldehyde water solution, under ambient conditions and simulated solar light irradiation. photocatalytic performance was better than TiO P25.
