Evaluation of Digital Addiction Levels in Children and Adolescents with Asthma: A Case-Control Study

Aim: Asthma remains the most prevalent chronic condition among children, significantly affecting their health and contributing to increased school absenteeism. Digital addiction, defined by excessive use of digital technologies, has become across different age groups, emerging as a significant societal concern. This study aims evaluate levels addiction in children with asthma compare these findings those healthy peers, thereby better understanding factors influencing management age. Materials Methods: prospective case-control was conducted at outpatient paediatric clinic child psychiatry department XXX Hospital between December 2023 March 2024. Data collection involved structured interviews both participants parents, during which details regarding device usage over preceding six months were gathered. Results: A total 170 recruited for study, consisting 56 females 114 males, median 11 years (interquartile range: 5). The overall Addiction Scale Children score also higher group compared controls (p = 0.003). optimal threshold obtained from receiver operating characteristic analysis 50.5 points, provided sensitivity 63.5% specificity 60%. association identified p=0.002 an odds ratio 2.613 (95% CI: 1.407-4.853). Conclusion: adolescents exhibit notably scores than counterparts, suggesting potential that merits further research. There is need comprehensive investigations clarify nature relationship addiction.

Determinants of Early Smartphone Ownership: A research gap in the study of Problematic Smartphone Use in children and adolescents

Over the past decade, a significant body of research has focused on problematic smartphone use and addiction among children adolescents. Much this focuses negative consequences use. Still, it assumes universal adoption technology without questioning age acquisition or paying attention to determinants early ownership. Through systematic review 1,053 scientific publications, gap in existing literature was identified: only 14 studies (1.3%) address topic ownership adolescents—some them identifying as predictor future use—, them, 8 these (0.8%) explore factors associated with ownership, covering population n = 12,912 individuals. According results review, at least four emerge relevant understanding ownership: peer pressure combined fear social exclusion, household characteristics (one-child households, parental separation, free internet access home, electronic devices during meals, age, education level), perceived adolescent’s maturity concerns about safety location. Other that may have an impact but need be further explored are: gender differences trust tools control Despite identified factors, more is needed better understand their mixed relationships precise influence parents' choices.
