This paper focuses on breakwater design and development in coastal ecosystem protection contexts. It investigates traditional breakwaters’ negative impacts the marine ecosystem, like disrupting sediment transport reducing water exchange, causing accumulation pollution. Current research deficiencies are identified, including a lack of long-term ecological impact studies, insufficient sustainable materials, incomplete assessments local communities economy. The review breakwater-ecosystem integration three aspects. For it discusses culverts permeable breakwaters, considering their effectiveness factors location size. Eco-friendly materials concrete its benefits for organisms environment presented, along with other recycled materials’ economic advantages. importance providing biological habitats to increase biodiversity is also investigated. Case studies illustrate these concepts. However, current have limitations. Future should focus functions, compensation restoration strategies, assessments. International cooperation be enhanced more effective development.

Integrated site investigations using VES techniques, SPT, borehole drilling, soil moisture content and specific gravity have been conducted at LFTZ, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. results correlated with data revealed a lithological sequence maximum five geoelectric layers. Inferred lithologies include low/moderate resistivity (45.6–206.3 Ωm) topsoil of sand/silty sand followed by succession silty sand/sand layers to depth about 45 m. Low (resistivity <300 is the prevalent in second and/or third strata >300 last layer across traverses. SPT correlate well showing subsurface very loose/loose grading sand, loose/medium dense medium dense/dense sand. Soil density Increases downward boreholes N-values (2–24). Grain size distribution curves depict uniformly graded/narrowly graded aggregates Cu Cc ranges 1.33–8.00 0.610–2.00, respectively. Moderate values (16.72–27.82) suggest that water table close surface toward nearby Atlantic Ocean. Specific (2.60–2.78) lie within range for most soils indicate salinity minimal study location.

Reef restoration has gained attention as it strategic actions and powerful means in sustaining maintaining coastal ecosystem services. This scientometric study systematically analyzes the current trends research hotspot coral across last five decades (1971–2022). The metadata (12,667 articles with 652,860 cited references) were obtained from Clarivate Web of Science platform through Core Collection database, associated CiteSpace R‐software for further analysis. results indicated that trend is increasing paper/year, United States, Australia, China major contributors to related research. Furthermore, James Cook University, Australia had largest number articles, Consortium Research Libraries Kingdom was most influential institution on restoration. highly keywords are “Great Barrier Reef,” “climate change,” “coral reef,” while “coral,” “model,” “Atlantic.” A total 23 clusters field “phase shift,” “bacterial communities,” restoration,” “symbiotic dinoflagellate,” “stony tissue loss disease,” “bleaching event,” “ocean acidification,” “oyster “quantitative reconstruction” among top cluster size labeled. This study evaluates the health and condition of coral reefs in Mapur Island - Bintan Conservation Area, located Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. The research was conducted at 5 site locations using Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method, with a focus on hard cover Coral Health Index (CHI). lifeform data were analyzed Point Count Excel extensions (CPCe) software. results revealed significant variability cover, ranging from 14.47% to 59.27%, an average 39.36%, placing “Moderate” category. However, despite high some sites, varied, certain exhibiting disease prevalence. Among sites surveyed for CHI, four classified as “healthy,” while one categorized “diseased.” Statistical analyses, including Welch’s t-test Bayesian inference, indicated no difference between CHI suggesting that does not necessarily imply healthier reef. Diseases such Pink- Blotch Syndrome, Black Band Disease, White Syndrome prevalent across several highlighting influence environmental stressors health. underscores importance regular monitoring need conservation efforts mitigate impact diseases climate change. The escalating threat of climate change has placed global coastal communities at risk, with rising sea levels and intensified storm events presenting unprecedented challenges. Coastal vulnerability assessments, conducted every 3-5 years, are crucial. This empirical study assesses the Vulnerability Index (CVI) for distinct contexts Dawlish, Happisburgh (England), Aberystwyth (Wales). CVI method consists Physical (PCVI) Economic (ECVI), which provide a multidimensional assessment zones. integrated index allows nuanced evaluation vulnerability, distinguishing between sites based on various factors. Additionally, this correlation analysis to understand associations parameters. findings demonstrate that physical features like beach dune widths significantly impact location's natural defences, economic factors such as property values population density equally crucial in determining societal risks potential financial repercussions. Combined (CCVI) results confirm effectiveness incorporating diverse range variables. Despite its substantial value, it reveals Dawlish requires targeted protective measures, whereas needs an increased focus most vulnerable sectors. emerges area highest overall underscoring need comprehensive management practices. study's conclusions emphasize essential role adaptive, strategies enhancing resilience against complex threats posed by dynamics. Moving forward, indices established herein advocate their use strategic planning policymaking strengthen regions face sea-level rise climatic variability. investigation lays groundwork future research, aimed refining expanding these methodologies, aspiring develop detailed national atlas, critical tool informed decision-making safeguarding at-risk communities.
