The ruins of the Imperial City Minyue Kingdom were an important site during Han Dynasty. Characteristic bronze arrowheads unearthed from East Gate, with their exquisite craftsmanship, provide physical evidence for studying ancient casting technology and military activities that time. However, there is still a lack systematic research on alloy composition, process, chemical stability these in long-term burial environments. found Gate warehouse are subject this study. Metallographic analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) used to carefully examine composition microstructure, as well process characteristics. findings reveal following: (1) primarily consist copper–tin binary alloys, certain samples exhibit lead (Pb) content up 11.19%, potentially due element addition or migration environment. (2) metallographic structure shows sample matrix has typical α-dendrite structure, indicating high-temperature was used, then surface treatment performed enhance corrosion resistance. (3) Under microscope, it observed three-layer formed arrowhead, including fully mineralized layer, intermediate transition original core tissue. (4) detection molybdenum (Mo) some suggests close relationship between complexity buried soil environment human activities. (5) By comparing microstructure degree longitudinal section cross-section, stronger resistance its denser structure. Comprehensive analysis technical details terms material selection, later use reflect outstanding achievements field manufacturing

This study explores a new microdestructive on-site metallographic inspection technique for analyzing metal artifacts. In the current archeometrical work, analysis of artifacts requires mechanical sampling, which not only damages integrity but also brings cold working effects to structure during sampling process, making information inaccurate. designed set detailed methods bronze artifacts, including grinding, sealing, polishing, etching, replicating, cleaning, and other steps. After verifying its safety through simulation experiments, method was applied several precious two Ming Dynasty lions from Xi’an Beilin Museum Shang Bronze Tripod Vessel with Cicada Designs China Ware Museum. The findings show that in situ can flexibly accurately reveal texture process each localized part e.g., heat-affected zone coins on surface proved casting-inlay different heat foot chronological sequence historical restorations. provides novel approach provide significant advantages processing techniques intact
