Abstract We studied the prevalence, abundance and physical chemical characteristics of microplastics (MPs) in fishes Luruaco lagoon, Colombia. Four samplings were carried out where fish captured with trawl nets. Each individual was assessed for total weight, standard length, then a uroventral cut made to extract stomach intestine (GIT). structure weighed, measured deposited glass jars filtered KOH solution. The MPs frequency occurrence assessed. A principal component analysis (PCA) used describe variation species dataset (%FO, proportion their diet). Seven recorded 271 individuals examined: Microplastics identified all species, 1157 particles found GIT, prevalence 87.5% MPs. Mugil liza Andinoacara latifrons had highest %FO cichlid species. typologies 13 colors analyzed; fibers color blue predominant. direct relationship observed between type diet

Highlights•Plastic plays a vital role in disseminating superbugs aquatic ecosystem•Plastic-associated antibiotic resistant bacteria pose hidden risks for humans•Detection of emerging and re-emerging pathogens environmental sector is threatening•Improving One-Health prevention by enhancing the detection AMR ecosystemSummaryPlastic materials are pollutants acting as potential vehicles accumulation spread multidrug-resistant bacteria. The current study investigates plastics favoring dispersal specific their associated genes (ARGs). Artificial plastic substrates (APSs) were submerged seven sampling points Lake Bracciano (Italy), after one-month both APSs raw water (RW) samples collected. Through combination standard microbiological biochemical techniques, 272 bacterial strains identified characterized profiling. Our results revealed notable difference terms diversity abundance pathogenic recovered from APSs, compared to RW. In addition, higher resistance patterns detected isolates, with frequent appearance relevant ARGs class 1 integrons. These findings reinforce idea that ecosystems serve reservoir superbugs, significantly contributing dissemination ARGs.Graphical abstract
