Understanding the mechanisms that lead to proliferation of large jellyfish populations over time is crucial prevent andmitigate any possible negative impacts on human activities and ecosystem functioning. Rhizostoma pulmo (Macri, 1778) an outbreak forming species Mediterranean Sea has been observed in anthropized areas including Gulf Taranto. To describe seasonal changes reproductive patterns R. from May December 2016, we measured diameter, number diameter oocytes using histological biochemical analyses (lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, organic matter), as well gonadal somatic index (GSI). Jellyfish size did not fluctuate considerably during collection period, with specimens measuring between 19.5 38.2 cm diameter. Our findings revealed a strong activity summer spawning event September October. Male female gonad morphology was similar other previously reported Rhizostomeae. Oocytes were categorized into three developmental classes, recognizable by their shape: <15 μm for pre-vitellogenesis, 15-30 vitellogenesis, >30 mature oocytes. The peaked August, smaller eggs recorded October larger near end summer. GSI fluctuated greatly sampling dates, peaking August. Lipid levels varied significantly throughout greatest value (277.26±98 μg lipid mg AFDW-1) lowest (70.36±41.5 AFDW-1). Carbohydrates, matter (62 ± 6 %) remained stable period. sexual reproduction report here can be used tool identifying periods better understanding process control population dynamics.
