Spatial–Temporal Variations in Fish Larvae and Juveniles in the Surf Zone Along the Coast of Jiangsu Province, China

Surf
zones
are
important
nursery
grounds
for
fish
larvae
and
juveniles.
However,
little
is
known
about
juveniles
in
the
surf
zone
along
coast
of
Jiangsu
Province.
To
describe
species
composition
juveniles,
monthly
collections
were
conducted
at
eight
stations
during
spring
tide
from
February
2024
to
January
2025.
The
sampled
using
a
seine
net
(1m
×
4m;
1
mm
mesh
aperture),
with
sampling
repeated
three
times
each
station
per
month.
A
total
1435
collected,
belonging
42
37
genera
21
families.
Almost
half
them
postflexion
larvae.
Gobiidae,
14
species,
was
most
diverse
family.
Based
on
index
relative
importance
(IRI)
result,
dominant
Amoya
pflaumi,
accounting
35.33%
number
individuals
collected.
Common
Mugil
cephalus,
Amblychaeturichthys
hexanema,
Tridentiger
trigonocephalus,
Acanthogobius
ommaturus,
Mugilogobius
abei,
Thryssa
mystax,
Periophthalmus
modestus,
Sillago
sihama,
myxodermus.
All
other
classified
as
rare.
No
or
collected
number,
catch
unit
effort
(CPUE),
Margalef’s
richness
index,
Pielou’s
evenness
Shannon–Wiener
diversity
showed
similar
trends,
significant
differences
could
be
found
parameter
among
months.
cluster
analysis
ten
months
(excluding
2025)
indicated
seasonal
change
community
structure
Fish
abundant

aquaculture

flat

This
study
is
to
explore
the
alleviating
effects
of
glutamate
on
intestinal
damage
in
cultured

croaker.
