Circadian rhythms are near-24 h patterns of physiology and behavior associated with several physical mental health outcomes. Self-report questionnaires routinely used practical tools to assess circadian rhythms. However, the extent which these capture relevant parameters can be interchangeably is unknown. We investigated different types manifestations using 14 self-report for adults. A systematic hierarchical content analysis was combined a visualization method. Jaccard indices were calculated quantify degree overlapped. Content revealed 40 distinct manifestations, we classified into five dimensions ("circadian phase," "circadian amplitude stability," "nycthemeral timing," regularity," complaints"). The average index 0.150, indicating very weak overlap. None explored all dimensions. Composite Scale Morningness Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire exhibited greater, but still limited, overlap other (Jaccard 0.255 0.251, respectively), best instruments assessing phase. Nycthemeral timing, must analyzed measure misalignment in clinical research settings, only by Munich Chronotype Questionnaire, that instrument does not evaluate stability partially assesses nycthemeral regularity. Based on our preliminary analysis, make recommendations regarding circumstances some could prove more useful than others. results might also aid definition investigation at crossroads behavior.

Circadian rhythms are molecular oscillations governed by transcriptional–translational feedback loops (TTFLs) operating in nearly all cell types and fundamental to physiological homeostasis. Key circadian regulators, such as locomotor output cycles kaput (CLOCK), brain muscle ARNT-like 1 (BMAL1), period (PER), cryptochrome (CRY) gene families, regulate intracellular metabolism, oxidative balance, mitochondrial function, synaptic plasticity. disruption is known a central contributor the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders. Disease-specific disruptions clock expression melatoninergic signaling potential early-stage biomarkers. Melatonin, neurohormone secreted pineal gland, modulates expression, stability, inflammatory responses. It also regulates epigenetic metabolic processes through nuclear receptors regulators involved cellular stress pathways, thereby exerting neuroprotective effects maintaining neuronal integrity. This review provides recent findings from past five years, highlighting how dysregulation mediates key disturbances translational circadian-based therapies diseases.

Chronobiology, the study of biological rhythms, plays a crucial role in workplace well-being, influencing sleep, cognitive performance, and overall health. In 24/7 work culture, misalignment between schedules circadian rhythms leads to fatigue, reduced productivity, health risks. Understanding chronotypes—morning, evening, or intermediate—enables tailored scheduling enhance efficiency job satisfaction. Strategic interventions such as optimized lighting, flexible arrangements, structured breaks can mitigate disruption. By integrating chronobiology into policies, organizations foster healthier, more engaged employees while improving performance. This chapter explores scientific insights practical strategies align environments with natural advocating for shift towards evidence-based, employee-centered approaches.
