Regional hippocampal thinning and gyrification abnormalities and associated cognition in children with prenatal alcohol exposure

Abstract
Background
Prenatal
alcohol
exposure
(PAE)
impacts
hippocampal
structure
and
function,
contributing
to
deficits
in
memory
decision-making
affected
individuals.
Here,
we
evaluate
anomalies
children
with
PAE
an
unexposed
comparison
group
using
advanced
MRI
methods
that
characterize
curvature
thickness.
Methods
Participants,
ages
8
16
years,

Fetal
alcohol
spectrum
disorder
(FASD)
encompasses
a
range
of
complex
neurodevelopmental
challenges
that
arise
because
maternal
use
during
pregnancy.
Contrary
to
previous
beliefs,
FASD
is
wide-ranging
condition
mostly
invisible,
affecting
cognitive,
social,
and
daily
living
skills.
Furthermore,
with
may
present
other
challenges,
such
as
mental
health
issues,
substance
abuse,
engagement
in
criminal
behavior.
long-term
disability

support
across
the
lifespan.
The
main
objective
this
research
was
determine
what,
if
anything,
has
changed
since
prior
review
2020
parents
appearing

intervention
courts
Canada.

eleven
relevant
reported
cases
throughout
Canada
