Early prevention from the first tooth? What do the German dental homepages recommend?
Abstract
Background
Preventive
dental
care
for
children
should
start
from
the
first
primary
tooth.
New
early
screening
guidelines
in
Germany
(Fruehuntersuchung
FU
1a-c)
were
established
2019
and
recommend
starting
at
six
months
of
age.
It
is
unclear
to
what
extent
websites
practices
provide
this
related
information
parents.
This
study
aims
determine
whether
on
provided
German
practice
websites.
Methods
A
systematic
search
using
terms
‘dentist/FU/early
examinations’
was
conducted
by
two
independent
investigators
three
engines
09/21
12/21.
To
investigate
technical
functional
aspects,
overall
quality,
risk
bias,
assessed
modified
validated
questionnaires
(LIDA,
DISCERN).
Demographic
statements
about
examined
a
range
criteria
(including
presence
general
FU,
recommendations,
other
relevant
content).
Ten
analysed
baseline
each
investigators,
who
had
an
inter-rater
reliability
0.874
(intra-rater:
0.962).
Results
Eighty
analysed.
LIDA
analysis
shows
that
57
(71.25%)
met
least
50%
criteria,
DISCERN,
78
(97.5%)
criteria.
The
mentioned
45
(56.3%).
Specific
recommendations
30
(37.5%),
content
covered
15
(18.8%).
Further
tooth-healthy
diets
given
24
(30%)
websites,
only
four
(5%)
included
oral
hygiene.
Conclusions
While
large
proportion
few
explained
FU.
Recommendations
hygiene
or
factors
also
rarely
given.
Thus,
further
effort
must
be
made
improve
ease
use
internet
as
source
preventive
approach
increasing
health
childhood.
