Human Factors play a significant role in the development and integration of avionic systems to ensure that they are trusted can be used effectively. As Unoccupied Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology becomes increasingly important aviation domain this holds true. This study aims gain an understanding UAV operators' trust requirements when piloting UAVs by utilising popular interview methodology (Schema World Action Research Method), combination with key questions on identified from literature. Interviews were conducted six operators, range experience. importance past experience expectations operators hold. Recommendations made target training inform experience, addition equipment, procedures organisational standards aid developing trustworthy systems. The was developed shows promise for capturing within human-automation interactions.

A global turn to the drone is underway. While automation creep and rise of autonomy necessitate critical attention non-human, labour or 'manning' nonetheless remains a constitutive part of, limitation upon, assemblage. Situated in context personnel shortage, this article pursues an embodied geopolitics labour. Thinking with literature urging 'witnessing' strikes understanding infrastructures undergirding them, it offers three contributions. First, while cognisant access challenges accompanying research into military practice objects, introduces two under-examined fieldsites through which reapproaches drone. The conference industry training course, argues, offer windows empiric act widen methodological toolkit deployed drone's accounting. Second, reapproaching as such enables contextual conceptual reflections on experiences operators, those explored at alternative sites temporalities revealing distinct forms operational strain. Third, developing labour, also accounts for labours undertaking research, unpacking different strained encounter each fieldsite. conclusion engages feminist lens explore connections across between article's multiple scales, actors, (of strain). Collectively, contributes insight around adaptation, empirically-driven account inclusive both operators researchers, conceptualising strain therein.
