Timely on-site detection of viral pathogens is essential effective disease management mitigation societal disruptions. Recent advancements in optical methods have positioned them at the forefront healthcare diagnostics, offering high sensitivity specificity viable alternatives conventional techniques Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), which often suffer from time delays limited accessibility resource-constrained environments. This review elucidates potential various techniques, highlighting their advantages over traditional methods. It encompasses range modalities, including fluorescence-based approaches, Raman spectroscopy (RS), Plasmonic (e.g., surface plasmon resonance (SPR), localized SPR, (LSPR), surface-enhanced (SERS), fluorescence (SEF)), super resolution microscopies (SRMs), attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), integrated platforms waveguides molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based biosensors.
