Abstract In this study, the correlation between composition, hydrogen/carbon (H/C) ratio, and hydrogen/oxygen (H/O) ratio of a used cooking oil (UCO) specific emissions embodied in derived hydroprocessed esters fatty acids synthetic paraffinic kerosene (HEFA‐SPK) is investigated. It shown that HEFA‐SPK produced from UCOs with low concentrations C18:1, high C18:2, H/C ratios utilize less energy more hydrogen during Fuel Production. Hence, such will embody higher gCO 2 e for fossil utilization scenarios, lower green scenarios compared other UCOs. Conversely, it C18:2 Monte Carlo simulation gives Production 95% confidence interval all UCO‐derived HEFA‐SPK, showing similar uncertainty compositions. A maximum +1.1 e/MJ SAF −1.0 obtained upper bounds respectively production UCO. The application correlations founded study allows prediction feedstock‐to‐fuel conversion any UCO, providing C18:1 concentration, H/O UCO known.

Abstract Conventional jet fuels derived from fossil sources contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, leading climate change. Recent studies have shown that biobased different feedstocks offer a more sustainable alternative conventional as they are renewable biomass, reducing emissions. The major reviewed jatropha curcas, camelina, karanja oil, waste cooking municipal solid waste. They diverse benefits for aviation fuel development. As comparative analysis, this review examined characteristics based on their physicochemical properties, namely energy content, viscosity, calorific value, cetane number, freezing flash points. objective was understand the influence of properties performance evaluation, environmental impact, combustion characteristics. biojet compared with counterparts validate suitability alternatives in terms reduction engine performance. Biojet perform better lower sulfur soot point, aromatic high number. This study enhances understanding quality, supports development options. Overall, adherence American Society Testing Materials (ASTM) D7566‐18 standard is crucial acceptance integration into sector. Future research should explore such wood wastepaper, agricultural residues fuels. It also investigate emission biosourced at higher blending ratios (>50% by volume) Jet A‐1.

The aviation industry, driven by evolving societal needs, faces rising demand post-Covid and increasing pressure to align with emission reduction targets, prompting the development of drop-in sustainable fuels (SAF). Their compatibility existing aircraft infrastructure will help implement these urgency global climate crisis requires. This review delves into benefits challenges various feedstocks, addressing complexities in estimating feedstock availability location. Identified research gaps include enhancing availability, yield, diversity, investigating compositions, implementing agricultural practices. A summary ASTM-certified conversion processes technical specifications is outlined, further efficiency, catalyst selectivity, blending limits, aromatic compounds, combustion instability, numerical modeling. recent life cycle assessments (LCA) highlighted cradle-to-cradle assessments, location-specific analyses, temporal considerations, broader environmental impact categories. Recommendations stress obtaining primary data for enhanced LCA accuracy, conducting more specialized general studies combining LCA, techno-economic analysis, fuel requirements, socio-political multi-criteria decision analysis. paper underlines pressing need comprehensive inform SAF production alternatives context mitigation.
