Although recycling is one of the main solutions proposed in waste hierarchy established by Waste Framework Directive, effective plastic packaging Italy still insufficient. Through a review European Union and Italian legislation, strategies technological innovations, such as use bioplastics chemical recycling, this work aims to help fill possible knowledge gaps guide decisions both, public sector private sector, development policies that enhance management waste. Among results it was found low rate partly due technical regulatory limitations exist at level for growth innovative industry. These include complexity streams lack single Directive harmonizes laws Member States regarding bioplastics, technologies value-added products obtained.
