The up-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor is a high-efficiency system capable of carrying out digestion with shorter hydraulic retention times than traditional digesters. This review highlights recent advancements in UASB applications and key aspects such as microbial community dynamics hydrodynamics that could drive future developments. More specifically, this evaluates the working principles reactors, explores strategies to optimize efficiency, examines technological aimed at overcoming temperature constraints, managing emerging pollutants micropollutants, addressing scum accumulation, odor emission, nutrient recycling challenges. Furthermore, it addresses concerns about lack skilled workforce energy loss biomethane. demonstrates high potential for enhancing global wastewater management while holding promises circular economic objectives, promoting efficient biogas utilization, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In this investigation, Zn/Al carbonate layered double hydroxide (ZAC-LDH) and its derived material on calcination were synthesized for removing the anionic azo dye Congo red (CR) from wastewater. Numerous factors methodically investigated, including temperature, adsorbent dosage, pH, starting Dye Concentration (DC), contact time. The CR elimination percentage dropped as initial DC increased 25 mg/L to 100 at 30 °C uncalcined LDH, 97.96% 89.25% calcined LDH. pH analysis indicates that highest level of removal was recorded within acidic range through electrostatic attraction mechanism. sorption kinetics results demonstrated pseudo-second-order kinetic model exhibited a stronger fit both LDH CZA-LDH, with maximum correlation coefficient value. Van’t Hoff plots indicate spontaneous nature physisorption process negative ΔG° (<−20 kJ/mol), while endothermic adsorption positive ΔH°. X-ray diffraction reveals significant intercalation molecules, prior following adsorption, showcasing distinctive memory effect. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) gas measurements performed support mesoporous ZAC-LDH CZA-LDH. FTIR spectrum confirms interaction molecules surface These findings emphasize efficacy LDHs in dye, CZA-LDH demonstrating superior efficiency compared context
