Purpose This study aims to explore the current development status, spatiotemporal evolution, and spatial effects of niche fitness in China’s regional digital innovation ecosystems (DIEs), providing guidance for coordinated innovation. Design/methodology/approach Utilizing ecological theory, this develops an evaluation system DIEs fitness, calculates evolutionary momentum across 31 provinces (including municipalities autonomous regions, excluding Hong Kong, Macau Taiwan) China from 2014 2022 analyzes their characteristics. And a dynamic Durbin model is employed assess effects. Findings The findings reveal that 2022, exhibited overall upward trend, particularly eastern regions. Fitness was higher east south lower west north. Resource technology steadily increased, while community slightly declined. Both individual element demonstrate significant temporal inertia, with also exhibiting spillover Originality/value applies theory DIEs, offering novel perspective on dynamics theoretical support optimizing policies, promoting balanced advancing twin transition process.

This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms through which digital government construction influences regional dual control of energy consumption (encompassing both total volume and intensity use), with a particular emphasis on exploring its indirect effects mediated by synergistic advancement technological spiritual civilizations. Drawing provincial panel data from China, we establish nested framework that integrates spatial difference-in-differences models double machine learning systematically dissect transmission pathway linking construction, synergy between civilizations, consumption. Our findings indicate following: (1) Digital significantly enhances policy coordination optimized resource allocation. (2) While progression civilization plays notable intermediary role in reducing intensity, impact is constrained “Jevons paradox”. (3) Advancements concurrently promote alleviation reshaping social consensus behavioral norms. (4) The civilizations further amplify efficacy consumption, although exhibits pronounced polarization effect neighboring regions. theoretical contributions this are as follows: Firstly, it proposes governance paradigm “technology–culture” collaborative hub, breaking binary opposition determinism institutional embeddedness. Secondly, constructs “feasible ability” expansion model reveal complementary mechanism scientific (technology acquisition ability) (value selection ability). Thirdly, black box deconstructed methodological innovation provides systematic path for emerging economies solve “efficiency–equity” dilemma governance.

Breakthrough green innovation acts as a critical leverage point and fundamental driver of the development new productive forces. This study employs sample 108 cities along Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2011 to 2021 investigate impact digital infrastructure on urban breakthrough its underlying mechanisms. The findings are follows: (1) Digital construction facilitates innovation, with notably more substantial strategic innovation. result is validated through robustness endogeneity tests. (2) Heterogeneity analysis indicates that enhancement effect prominent in non-resource-based cities, higher levels marketisation, those weaker environmental regulations, particularly significant influence substantive (3) Mechanism reveals upgrading industrial structures, optimising market resource allocation, increasing public awareness mechanisms which strengthens capacity. Additionally, improvements occur structure, allocation efficiency, awareness, capacity displays nonlinear effect.
