Cities are facing the combined effects of multiple challenges, e.g., climate change, biodiversity, pollution, and lacking resources. Synergic innovative solutions required to simultaneously address them while also considering their social impacts. In this context, TALEA—Green Cells Leading Green Transition project, funded by European Urban Initiative, called Greening (EUI02-064)—aims tackle urban challenges in Bologna (Italy) mitigating Heat Islands (UHI) Waves (UHW) through an innovative, nature-based, data-driven approach. TALEA introduces (TGCs) concept, modular spatial units that integrate nature-based solutions, creative technological innovation, real-time environmental monitoring, citizen-science-driven data collection within a broader green infrastructure strategy (Bologna Verde project). TGCs bridge physical digital dimensions planning: at macroscale, they contribute restoring continuous corridor; microscale, regenerate underused spaces, transforming into shelters hubs for community engagement. A key feature is its innovation ecosystem, which integrates from different sources, including remote sensing, sensors, citizen-generated inputs, Systemic Observation Atlas, Smart Innovation Package Digital Twin city developing. These tools enable decision-making, supporting both planners local communities designing resilient, adaptive, inclusive environments. The scalability transferability potential integrated approach tested real implementation three pilots.
