Abstract Heavy metals accumulate and bind strongly in soil, making them difficult to eliminate. The objective of this study was evaluate the effect alder buckthorn ( Frangula alnus ) European hazelnut (Coryllus avellana admixtures pine monocultures on accumulation vertical distribution heavy soil surface horizons. Ten sites each stands admixed with buckthorn, hazelnut, Rybnik Forest District southern Poland were selected for variant. For study, samples taken from site organic mineral horizons analysed N C contents, C/N ratio, pHH 2 O, base cation metal contents. all three stand compositions, showed a significant compared content correlated pH, admixture shrubs, especially positively affected matter quality and, consequently, metals. had most beneficial effects tested which confirms that species can be used planning composition, particularly regions prone pollutant deposition.
