This investigation explores the effects of integrating acid-alkali treated biochar into anaerobic digestion chicken manure. Digesters containing manure with addition exhibited an 8.4-fold improvement in methane production compared to untreated digesters. In addition, porous structure promoted microbial acclimation, facilitated direct interspecies electron transfer, and provided anchoring points for immobilisation. Anaerobic digesters amended also demonstrated increased chemical oxygen demand removal, up 81.8 %, maintained lower total ammonia concentrations (2,478 mg/L) levels control reactors (4418 mg/L). terms community, propidium monoazide minimised errors live population estimation, providing new insights capacity shield microbes from stress. These findings highlight biochar's quantitative benefits, emphasising its potential enhancing production, mitigating stress, promoting resilience digestion.

Abstract Residual antibiotics in chicken manure may interfere with the stability of anaerobic digestion (AD) and inhibit resource utilization efficiency. In this study, we aimed to enhance bio-methanation AD high-concentration sulfamethazine (SMZ) by adding metal (Fe, Co)-modified Enteromorpha -based hydrochar (Co-HC, Fe-HC). The results showed that Fe-HC Co-HC increased degree acidogenesis 1.25 times 1.58 times, respectively. maximum protein concentration EPS was 47.64% 72.5% after Co-HC. However, only demonstrated notable improvements both methane production SMZ removal Electrochemical analysis possessed a richer variety oxygen nitrogen functional groups, along superior electron exchange capabilities compared Fe-HC. Furthermore, microbiological assessments revealed enriched syntrophic bacteria (such as Syntrophomonas Mesotoga ), facilitating direct interspecies transfer (DIET) subsequently enhancing biomethane production. abundance genes involved significantly Co-HC, increase 75.86% Co1.5-HC treatment. Additionally, elimination antibiotic resistance ( sul1 , sul2 ) 65.66% This study offers theoretical foundation empirical support for synergistic improvement livestock poultry containing high concentrations, thereby helping overcome challenges posed recalcitrant substances. This study examined the impacts adding wood biochar acid-alkali-treated to anaerobically digest under conditions inhibition. results highlighted that only addition 5 % by volume achieve cumulative methane production close typical potential range manure. treated also exhibited highest total nitrogen removal compared Control treatment. Scanning Electron Microscope revealed growing interactions between methanogens over time. Real-time polymerase chain reaction showed produced number bacterial biomass. In addition, 16S amplicon-based sequencing identified more robust archaeal community from addition. Overall, acid-alkali treatment represents method modifying improve its performance in digestion.

The experiment, conducted under mesophilic conditions using 15% total solid content 5% dosage, showed that CBC treatment achieves highest cumulative biogas production (314 mL g-1-VS) methane o(112 over 21 days. Further, digesters containing exhibited rate COD removal (80.8%), surpassing amended PBC (71.1%), RBC (69.2%) (57.8%). Although higher TAN adsorption capacity 48 mg g-1 compared to 32 CBC, both existing microbial population 1.2 ×1014 microbes per gram, have allowed exhibit superior digester performance. These findings offer valuable insights for optimising processes cutting operational costs in waste-to-energy projects incorporating as an additive.
