Drought affects human and natural systems, animal life health, socioeconomic activities. consequences depend on its type class, but also the preparedness resistance of communities to this climate disturbance. In last decades, droughts accounted for about 16% total number disasters were responsible 95% deaths 26% economic losses in Africa. This study aims assess drought regime Southern Africa based vegetation indices. The SPI SPEI calculated at different timescales, using ERA5 data 1971 – 2020 period. spatiotemporal distribution descriptors was analyzed compared with patterns NDVI, EVI VCI results reveal (i) occurrence various classes timescales throughout period region, (ii) high spatial variability number, duration, severity intensity drought, which tends decrease increasing timescale, (iii) spatial-temporal agreement between indices that confirm dryness during drought. These aim support policymakers defining legislation manage water resources.
