Abstract The emergence of antibiotic‐resistant bacteria (ARBs) and genes (ARGs) in aquaculture underscores the urgent need for alternative veterinary strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). These measures are vital reduce likelihood entering a post‐antibiotic era. Identifying environmentally friendly biotechnological solutions prevent treat bacterial diseases is crucial sustainability minimizing use antimicrobials, especially antibiotics. development probiotics with quorum‐quenching (QQ) capabilities presents promising non‐antibiotic strategy sustainable aquaculture. Recent research has demonstrated effectiveness QQ (QQPs) against range significant fish pathogens disrupts microbial communication (quorum sensing, QS) by inhibiting production, replication, detection signalling molecules, thereby reducing virulence factors. With their targeted anti‐virulence approach, QQPs have substantial promise as potential application aquaculture, however, still its early stages requires additional research. Key challenges include determining optimal dosage treatment regimens, understanding long‐term effects, integrating other disease control methods diverse systems. This review scrutinizes current literature on antibiotic usage, AMR prevalence mechanisms

Abstract This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluating the inclusion of β‐glucan in aquaculture animal diets its impact on their health outcomes. Relevant studies were identified from Scopus Web Science databases. A total 82 primary published between 1996 2024 reviewed, which 70 included meta‐analysis. The results revealed that application animal's significantly enhanced specific growth rate (SGR; mean effect, g = 2.71; p < 0.001), feed conversion ratio (FCR; −3.88; 0.0001) lowered mortality after exposure pathogens. Background/Objectives: The overuse and misuse of antibiotics has contributed significatively to the growing problem emergence spread antibiotic resistance genes among bacteria, posing a serious global challenge treatment bacterial infectious diseases. For these reasons, there is current interest in development effective alternative or complementary strategies therapy for prevention fish diseases, which are mainly based on use probiotics—in particular, those belonging Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) group. In this context, aim present study was characterise, evaluate genetic diversity assess safety candidate probiotic LAB strains aquaculture isolated from faeces intestines European hakes (Merluccius merluccius, L.) caught Northeast Atlantic Ocean (Ireland). Methods: direct antimicrobial activity isolates tested by Stab-On-Agar method against key ichthyopathogens. Subsequently, their taxonomic classification were determined 16SrDNA sequencing Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus-PCR (ERIC-PCR), respectively. To ensure vitro isolates, biofilm-forming ability assessed microtiter plate assay; sensitivity major used aquaculture, human veterinary medicine broth microdilution haemolytic gelatinase microbiological assays. Results: All biofilm producers susceptible chloramphenicol, oxytetracycline, flumequine amoxicillin. A total 30 (85.7%) resistant at least one antibiotics. None 35 showed proteolytic activity. Conclusions: Among strains, five exhibiting highest aquaculture-relevant ichthyopathogens, taxonomically identified as Streptococcus salivarius, Enterococcus avium Latilactobacillus sakei, selected further characterisation potential candidates promote sustainable aquaculture. our knowledge, first report that hake represent viable ecological niches isolation with

In recent years, the aquaculture industry has expanded rapidly, expanding both horizontally and vertically. However, this expansion come with challenge of frequent disease outbreaks, threatening sector's growth sustainability. Regardless best management practices (BMPs) biosecurity precautions, antibiotic usage becomes unavoidable during infectious particularly in high-value such as trout, catfish, shrimp culture within intensive systems like ponds, recirculatory (RASs), biofloc-based aquaculture, raceways. The indiscriminate irresponsible antibiotics uses or antimicrobial resistance emerged among harmful microorganisms, raising serious concerns regarding consumer safety because residues fisheries products. Therefore, it is essential to adopt methods that are sustainable environmentally friendly for prevention treatment aquaculture. Recently, holistic ecosystem strategies involving pathogen exclusion environmental manipulation have effective control measures Such include using probiotics prebiotics feed supplements improve aquatic animal health water soil environment health.
