Importance Studies investigating the role of supportive school environments in associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) suicidality among adolescents are lacking. Objective To assess ACEs with NSSI examine modifying such associations. Design, Setting, Participants Using data from 2021 School-Based Chinese Adolescents Health Survey, this cross-sectional study includes grades 7 through 12 326 schools across 8 provinces China. Statistical analysis was performed March to October 2024. Exposure ACEs, including individual indicators cumulative numbers by total categorized as threat-related deprivation-related were assessed. Main Outcome Measures NSSI, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts measured using validated questionnaires. Weighted Poisson regression models used. The interaction assessed multiplicative interactions. Results Among 95 549 included (mean [SD] age, 14.9 [1.8] years; 47 617 males [49.8%]), 45 236 individuals (47.3%) had experienced at least 1 ACE. Compared no those who 4 or more an increased risk (prevalence ratio [PR], 1.31; 95% CI, 1.30-1.33) (ideation: PR, 1.41; 1.39-1.42; attempts: 1.25; 1.24-1.27) after adjusting for covariates, environments. A dose-response association observed number (eg, NSSI: 1.06; 1.05-1.06 exposure vs 0 ACEs; 1.10; 1.10-1.11 2 ACEs). highest PRs found physical abuse, emotional bullying) ≥2 ACEs: 1.28; 1.27-1.29 NSSI; 1.33; CI 1.32-1.34 ideation; 1.18; 1.17-1.19 attempts). All ACE positively associated suicidality, particularly high abuse 1.26; 1.24-1.27 NSSI). Additionally, significantly modified 0.81; 0.76-0.88). Conclusion relevance In study, increases independent environments, but could modify detrimental outcomes. These findings underscore importance enhancing prevent have ACEs.

Abstract Aims It is unclear whether DNA methylation underlies the associations of childhood maltreatment (CM) with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adolescents. We aim to explore mediating effect specific sites’ levels on CM and its subtypes NSSI, following investigation association between NSSI. Methods A nested case-control study was conducted examine 155 adolescents aged 12–14 years who had NSSI 201 controls. were evaluated using Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. The 850k chip used discover differences whole genome peripheral blood 10 cases Pyrosequencing employed detect differential sites among population, which selected based bioinformatics analysis. Results After controlling for potential confounders, subtypes, cg04622888 cg05037505 all significantly associated level mediated emotional abuse (proportion estimates: 0.09; 95% CI: 0.06–0.14), neglect (0.08; 95%CI: 0.05–0.13), or physical (0.18; 0.08–0.31) (0.14; 0.06–0.25) Conclusions independently early adolescents, they partially abuse, neglect, Targeted interventions should focus individuals have experienced exhibit high cg05037505.
