Long-term exposure to urban dust containing potentially toxic elements (PTEs) poses detrimental impacts on human health. However, studies estimating health risks in dusts from a global perspective are scarce. Both particulate matter and gaseous components of air pollution have already been shown to increase cardiovascular mortality in numerous studies. It is, however, important note that on their way the bloodstream polluting agents pass lung barrier.
