Work Disparities and the Health of Nurses in Long-Term Care: A Scoping Review DOI Open Access

Work disparities, such as unfairness in pay or unequal distribution of work experienced by nurses long-term care (LTC), can impact the retention and health this workforce. Background: Despite significant disparities on nurses' LTC, a literature review LTC has not been conducted. Method: This scoping aimed to explore nature extent research meso-level its links with nurse well-being. Five databases were searched: MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE PsycINFO SCOPUS, CINAHL (EBSCO host). Results: Of 5652 articles retrieved, 16 studies (14 quantitative 2 qualitative) published between 1997 2024 met inclusion criteria. A total 53 identified. Only four investigated association disparity variable (e.g., physical, mental, poor general health). Conclusions: The results suggest that more attention how lived experiences is warranted. Meso-level from provide an initial basis consider possibilities workplace, especially supporting equity opportunities for well-being at through fair access professional growth equitable balance expectations demands nursing staff). The UK long-term care workforce has endured difficult working conditions for many years. During the pandemic, sector faced unprecedented challenges, which further exacerbated these and brought concerns about workplace abuse violence. Such experiences can vary by personal work characteristics, particularly affecting minority ethnic groups. They subsequently impact workers’ wellbeing overall.
