Abstract Background Patients suffering from psychiatric disorders can manifest as symptoms of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after intensive care unit (ICU) stay has received considerable attention worldwide. The combination restorative environments virtual reality (VR) might be a very effective tool to briefly escape the ICU for early intervention. Based on Stress Recovery Theory (SRT) Attention (ART), this study protocol aims evaluate effect “virtual reality-based environment” provided by nurses. Methods This is an assessor-blinded randomized controlled trial. A total 72 critically ill awake patients will enrolled participants per patient in 1:1 ratio either intervention or control group. group treated usual. Participants allocated receive 360-degree immersive VR environment played head-mounted display with noise-cancelling headphones. primary outcome measures include Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS), Impact Event Revised (IES-R), Short Form-36 (SF-36). Secondary outcomes are Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) Patient Satisfaction Level. Data collected at 5-time points: baseline (T0), discharge (T1), 1 month (T2), 3 months (T3) 6 (T4) discharge. Discussion Psychiatric common setting, but validated prevention treatment strategies lacking. results provide insight into whether modality that used improve psychological well-being quality life satisfaction. Natural environment experiences in virtual reality (VR) can be a feasible option for people unable to connect with real nature. Existing research mostly focuses on health and emotional advantages of the "virtual nature" therapy, but studies its neuropsychological effects related visual perception are rare. In our experiment, 20 subjects watched nature-related video content VR headsets (3D condition) computer screen (2D condition). addition gender factor, we considered individual Environmental Identity Index (EID) collected self-assessment state per components Valence, Arousal, Dominance each experimental condition. Besides psychometric data, also registered brainwave activity (EEG) analyzed it 7 frequency bands. For EID, which was considerably higher women, found significant positive correlation Valence (i.e., beneficial effect natural stimuli psycho-emotional status). At same time, analysis EEG data suggests considerable impact immersion itself, relaxation alpha 3D vs. 2D condition men. The novel most pronounced factor relation between EID powers high-frequency bands-that is, these variables women (0.64 < Rs 0.74) negative men (-0.66 -0.72). Our results imply individually different gender-dependent stimulus VR. Correspondingly, development should consider this aim provide user characteristics-tailored experience.
