Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) represent a significant health challenge for workers in construction environments, often arising from prolonged exposure to ergonomic risks associated with manual labor, awkward postures, and repetitive motions. These conditions not only lead diminished worker productivity but also incur substantial economic costs employers healthcare systems alike. Thus, there is an urgent need effective tools assess mitigate these risks. This study proposes novel monocular 3D multi-person pose estimation method designed enhance risk assessments environments. Leveraging advanced computer vision deep learning techniques, this approach accurately captures analyzes the spatial dynamics of workers’ focus on detecting extreme knee flexion, critical indicator work-related (WMSDs). A pilot conducted actual site demonstrated method’s feasibility effectiveness, achieving accurate detection rate flexion incidents that closely aligned supervisory observations self-reports. The proposed enables universal applicability enhances analysis through group recognition timely interventions. Future efforts will improving robustness integration monitoring reduce WMSDs promote health.

Exoskeletons are increasingly recognized as ergonomic solutions for work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the construction industry. However, users of active back-support exoskeletons susceptible to various physical and psychological risks, which could be exoskeleton-type or task-dependent. A test bed is needed enable deployment assessment risks associated with exoskeleton use tasks. This study presents a human-in-the-loop digital twin framework assessing using work. Through literature review, system architecture was developed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted identify tasks that most suitable exoskeletons. Based on identified tasks, laboratory experiment quantify commercially available carpentry framing The efficacy demonstrated an example classification exertion levels due 1D-convolutional neural network. results show performance model improved significantly synthetic data. dashboard provides visualization risk outcomes aid decision-making. highlights potential twins assessment, allowing stakeholders proactively address optimize sets precedent future research monitor construction. This study presents a novel video-based risk assessment and safety management technique aimed at mitigating the of falling objects during tower crane lifting operations. The conventional YOLOv5 algorithm is prone to issues missed false detections, particularly when identifying small objects. To address these limitations, enhanced by incorporating an additional object detection layer, implementing attention mechanism, modifying loss function. YOLOv5s model achieved precision recall rates 96.00%, with average (AP) values 96.42% IoU 0.5 62.02% across range from 0.95. These improvements significantly enhance model’s capability accurately detect hooks personnel. Upon hook within video frame, its actual height calculated using interpolation function derived hook’s dimensions. calculation allows for precise demarcation danger zone determining potential impact area worker’s level assessed refined method based on statistical analysis past accidents. If surpasses predetermined threshold, box emphasized flagged as caution monitoring display.
