Abstract This study investigated the relationship between compassion and mindfulness in teaching among early years practitioners, with low levels of psychological distress as a mediator. Previous research suggests that mindfulness and mind wandering are opposing constructs. However, little is known about why how they negatively related. Through a process-oriented approach, this cross-sectional study tested self-compassion grit as mediators for the relation between wandering. A total of 487 self-identified meditators were recruited from UK (241 female, 49.49%). Participants reported mean age 38.98 years (SD = 10.03), with an average 2.26 h meditation practice per week 4.47). Upon informed consent, participants completed self-report questionnaire assessed core variables under study. Path analysis indicated was related to self-compassion. Greater was, in turn, greater grit, which then lower Bootstrapping further wandering, above beyond age, gender, hours meditation, income, education covariates.
