To the Editor: We were greatly impressed by article Jerry Shepherd et al,1 titled "Tobacco Use and Trigeminal Neuralgia: Clinical Features Outcome After Microvascular Decompression." The study indicates that smoking may worsen trigeminal neuralgia (TN) severity emphasizes importance of preoperative cessation for better patient outcomes. However, it has several limitations. First, this explores relationship between postoperative outcomes in TN using a variety pain assessment methods, including self-reported scales clinician evaluations. Additionally, lower annual income, decreased physical functioning, greater catastrophizing, parent stress Findings underscore importance utilizing comprehensive assessment oncology.
