Abstract Flood is among the most disastrous natural disasters since they are responsible for massive damage to infrastructure, severe fatalities and injuries, innumerable economic losses, social disruptions worldwide. These damages caused by floods have been worsening in recent years worldwide because of environmental degradation, climatic change, high-speed urbanization. A rising precipitation rate increases chances flood-vulnerable areas. flash flood a rapid flooding geomorphic low-lying regions remarkably high rainfall short duration. On September 23rd, 2023 event Nagpur, Maharashtra, it directly impact on human death loss entire city. In present study, change dynamics Nagpur city was analysed employing remote sensing GIS techniques assess land use cover patterns. Landsat imagery year 2000, 2010, 2020, used classification. This analysis reveals that there an increase built-up area from 72.85 sq. km 2000 185.4 2023. The built up increased this changes where affects infiltration rainwater into soil. total covered water bodies reduced 2.29 which were 12.2 2000. It indicates encroachment bodies. day occurrence, observed received 145 mm highest month September, Shannon entropy model estimate population growth patterns Higher values obtained during transformation all directions. Population also indicate inflation 4,067,637 4,653,570 2010. SAR index calculated using Google Earth Engine detect surges residential areas flood. Precautionary measures should be taken governing authorities avoid such disasters. Proper planning improvements drainage systems recommended within needed hour develop river monitoring system early warning system, as well preventive implemented, like construction retaining walls control water.
