Background The red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is closely linked to the prognosis of multiple diseases. However, connection between RDW and gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) in stroke patients not well understood. This study aimed clarify this association. Methods retrospective involved 11,107 hospitalized from 208 hospitals United States, admitted January 1, 2014, December 31, 2015. We examined clinical data 7,512 intensive care unit (ICU). Multivariate logistic regression assessed link in-hospital GIB patients. Generalized additive model (GAM) smooth curve fitting (penalty spline method) were utilized explore non-linear relationship inflection point was calculated using a recursive algorithm, interactions different variables through subgroup analyses. Results Among screened patients, included primary analysis, with 190 identified as having GIB. participants had mean age (61.67 ± 12.42) years, median 13.9%. Multiple analysis revealed risk factor for (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.21, 1.36, p < 0.05). found be non-linear. Additionally, 14.0%. When ≥14.0%, there positive association (OR: 1.24, CI: 1.16, 1.33, 0.0001). Conversely, when <14.0%, significant 1.02, 0.97–1.07, 0.4040). Conclusion showed substantial Maintaining patient’s value below 14.0% could lower

Abstract Background The burden of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is immediate concern, as its prevalence increasing worldwide. MASLD often progresses to fibrosis, posing significant health risks. Age-independent non-invasive tools evaluate fibrosis are needed improve diagnostic accuracy across all age groups. Methods. 84 inflammatory, hematological, and variables were quantified in the blood n = 63 individuals with different degrees 22 age-matched controls. Linear regression models employed identify markers strongly correlated but not influenced by age. Logistic used ability various indexes discriminate between no/mild severe fibrosis. Results. Levels glutamine propionate identified combined form GP index. index demonstrated superior predictive power for compared existing scores, like circulating creatinine. It showed higher discriminatory (AUC 0.872) better model fit, indicating robustness reliability Conclusions. study introduces index, an age-independent tool diagnosing monitoring patients. By excluding age-dependent markers, can potentially reduce false positives accuracy, particularly older populations. combination this reflects a novel approach, capturing both intrinsic hepatic changes extrinsic influences from gut microbiota, offering simple yet effective solution staging.
