Globally, age-related diseases represent a significant public health concern among the elderly population. In aging, healthy organs and tissues undergo structural functional changes that put aged adults at risk of diseases. Some include cancer, atherosclerosis, brain disorders, muscle atrophy (sarcopenia), gastrointestinal (GIT) etc. organs, decline in stem cell function is starting point many conditions extremely important GIT disorder development. Many studies have established aging affects cells their surrounding supportive niche components. Although there advancement treating intestinal rising population coupled with higher occurrence chronic gut ailments necessitates more effective therapeutic approaches to preserve health. Notable strategies such as Western medicine, traditional Chinese other health-promotion interventions been reported several hold promise mitigating disorders. This review highlights findings across various facets focus on aging-associated components, thus deviation from normal repercussion, well essential mitigate aging.

Multi-dimensional studies have consistently indicated the benefits of dietary proanthocyanidins on blood glucose homeostasis through consumption them from fruits, cereals and nuts. Proanthocyanidins various sources possess different structures, but even minor variations in structures influence their regulation glucose, including degree polymerization, galloacylation at C3, number hydroxyl groups B ring linkage type. Therefore, this Review details role three types (procyanidins, prodelphinidins propelargonidins) control underlying mechanisms, structural features contribute to. Due to extremely low bioavailability, mainly ameliorate high by luminal effects: inhibit enzyme activities, improve structure gut microbiota, protect intestinal barrier function. A few absorbed exert insulin-like effects targeted organs. Prodelphinidin gallates exhibit greater hypoglycemic activities than others, due C3 amounts ring. Because action pathways, comprehensive consideration type density was required. Further understanding these relationships can concrete diet therapeutic opportunities for proanthocyanidins.

Procyanidins are one of the polyphenols consisting multiple flavan-3-ols (eg epicatechin). They have a complex chemical structure, with degree polymerization and linked position varying among various foods, such as apples chocolate. Physiological functional studies procyanidins investigated their mechanisms in cells animals based on antioxidant effects. Recently, intestinal environment, including microflora, has played an important role energy metabolism health status host. Regulation environment by dietary is becoming new concept functions, we begun to investigate mechanism apple procyanidins, focusing gut microbiota metabolites our research. In this minireview, will discuss effects procyanidin ingestion metabolites.
