Recent studies have indicated that metabolites, such short-chain fatty acids, indole derivatives, neurotransmitters, other bioactive compounds, can positively impact neurogenesis, myelination, axonal regeneration, suggesting their potential therapeutic strategies neuroprotection neuroregeneration. Despite growing number of on understanding role neuroprotective mechanisms remains limited.
