Anthocyanins are a large group of water-soluble flavonoid pigments. These specialized metabolites ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and play an essential role not only reproduction dispersal but also responses to biotic abiotic stresses. recognized as important health-promoting chronic-disease-preventing components human diet. Therefore, interest developing food crops with improved levels compositions these nutraceuticals is growing. This review focuses on work conducted elucidate genetic control anthocyanin pathway modulate content eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) tomato lycopersicum L.), two solanaceous fruit vegetables worldwide relevance. While have always been quality trait, anthocyanin-based, purple-fruited cultivars currently novelty. As detailed this review, difference cultivated germplasm has largely influenced studies well breeding transgenic approaches improve content/profile crops. The information provided should be help researchers breeders devising strategies address increasing consumer demand for nutraceutical foods.

Mung bean is a dual-use crop widely cultivated in Southeast Asia as food and medicine resource. The development of new functional mung varieties demands identifying genes regulating anthocyanidin synthesis investigating their molecular mechanism. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing technology to generate transcriptome sequence leaves, petioles, hypocotyls for the anthocyanins accumulation common variety well rich variety, elucidate mechanisms. 29 kinds anthocyanin compounds were identified. Most components contents significantly higher ZL23 compare with AL12. Transcriptome analysis suggested that total 93 structural encoding biosynthetic pathway 273 regulatory ternary complex MYB-bHLH-WD40 identified, which 26 78 differentially expressed two varieties. Weighted gene co-expression network revealed VrMYB3 VrMYB90 might have enhanced content by inducing expression such PAL, 4CL, F3'5'H, LDOX, F3'H, was consistent qRT-PCR results. These findings are envisaged provide reference studying mechanism beans.
