Pitaya is renowned for its delicious taste, high nutritional value, and economic as well ornamental appeal. Breeding new pitaya varieties can boost returns by appealing to consumers with diverse morphological traits. However, the genetic basis underlying key traits in intergeneric hybrids of has yet be fully understood. This study investigates dynamics flower, fruit, stem traits, including segregation patterns a mixed inheritance model major polygenic an hybridization between ‘Honghuagqinglong’ (HHQL) (Hylocereus stenopterus) ‘Heilong’ (HL) (Selenicereus grandiflorus). The identified normal or skewed, distribution seven floral, fifteen five indicating their quantitative nature governed multiple genes. Specifically, flower size color exhibited hereditary bias towards ‘HL’ characteristics, while ‘HHQL’ significantly influenced coloration fruit peel pulp. Fruit weight total soluble solids (TSS) content decreased, whereas broader thicker dimensions fewer thorns. offers valuable insights into variation influence genes on hybrids, providing useful reference parental selection breeding programs.

Soluble sugars, including glucose, fructose and sucrose, are the most important determinants that affect flavor quality of red pitaya (Hylocereus polyrhizus) fruit. Vacuolar invertase (VIN), which catalyzes sucrose hydrolysis into glucose fructose, is a key type enzyme responsible for soluble sugar metabolism in plant growth development. Herein, we conducted genome-wide identification, gene expression analysis, subcellular localization an enzymatic properties assay VIN-encoding genes from pitaya. During fruit development towards ripening, activities VIN showed up-regulated trend ripening. In total, four isoforms (HpVIN1–4) were identified genome. Sequence alignment results revealed HpVIN1, HpVIN3 HpVIN4 proteins contained essential motifs targeting vacuole conserved or residues binding hydrolysis. Gene pattern analyses level was obviously increasing during acted as abundant isoform Subcellular detection via transient Arabidopsis thaliana mesophyll protoplasts protein localized vacuole. Growth complementation tests heterologous invertase-deficient baker’s yeast strain suggested had activity could restore vivo. The identification vitro demonstrated degrade with optimum pH 4.0. Specifically, estimated Km value 5.15 ± 1.03 mmol·L−1 Ultimately, this study provides comprehensive understanding potential roles VINs ripening functional resources regulating accumulation

Skin microbiota, and its diversity balance, play a key role in skin health beauty, influencing moisture, barrier function, radiance. A healthy microbiota limits the growth of detrimental species, protecting from pathologies. Prebiotics can support beneficial populations outcompeting ones. Dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus) contains prebiotic polysaccharides effective on gut bacteria. Its extract was tested vitro, coculture model including representative double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials. Effects were measured via 16S rDNA sequencing, beauty benefits evaluated through image analysis, TEWL measurement, chromametry. Doppler flowmetry resilience. The supported S. epidermidis hominis (beneficial species), while limiting aureus C. acnes (representing pathogens) vitro. Clinical results demonstrated effects diversity, especially older volunteers (Faith’s index up to +20% vs. placebo). Improvements shown sensitivity resilience (by ca. 30% placebo), redness (reflecting inflammation status), pigmentation radiance (+11% ITA), function (−13% TEWL), wrinkling. This demonstrates this extract’s positive health, balance skin.
