Pathogenic infections of silkworms constitute the greatest threat to sericulture. An attractive approach improvement in silkworm health and performance comprises use probiotics, i.e., microorganisms that confer beneficial properties such as an increased growth rate resistance against pathogens. While this method has already resulted promising results, generally, there is a lack rational basis for guidance on selection probiotics. This review attempts organize useful information needs be considered successful application probiotics: constitution microbiota its origins; interaction major pathogens with microbiota; have been used so far Our analysis points two issues seem vital importance: (1) absence “core microbiota” which necessitates continuous supply according environmental conditions (2) apparent negative impact some other can baculovirus infections. Recent findings reported effects lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus sp.) when applied probiotics improving performance.
