Selenium (Se) is an essential nutrient that has gained attention for its impact on the human immune system. The purpose of this review to explore Se’s immunomodulatory properties and make up-to-date information available so novel therapeutic applications may emerge. People acquire Se through dietary ingestion, supplementation, or nanoparticle applications. These forms can beneficially modulate system by enhancing antioxidant activity, optimizing innate response, improving adaptive promoting healthy gut microbiota. Because these many actions, supplementation help prevent treat pathogenic diseases, autoimmune cancers. This will discuss as a key micronutrient with versatile supports disease management due beneficial effects. Further research warranted determine safe dosing guidelines avoid toxicity refine application in medical treatments.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBDs), including Crohn’s (CD), and ulcerative colitis (UC) are complex diseases with a multifactorial etiology, associated genetic, dietetic, other environmental risk factors. Children IBD at increased for nutritional inadequacies, resulting from decreased oral intake, restrictive dietary patterns, malabsorption, enhanced nutrient loss, surgery, medications. Follow-up of children should routinely include evaluation specific deficits dietetic and/or supplementation strategies be implemented in case deficiencies detected. Background: Inadequate dietary intake of vitamin D, K, and calcium, as well sub-optimal sunlight exposure, can lead to bone loss in the general population, more so patients with ulcerative colitis, who are burdened by additional predisposing factors for osteoporosis, such chronic inflammation cortisone use. However, micronutrient deficiencies, if present, easily corrected nutritional intervention. While relation between calcium D metabolism is known, fewer data available both healthy individuals patients. The aim this review provide an overview recent reports focusing on deficits relevant development osteoporosis/osteopenia affected colitis. Methods: A systematic electronic search English literature up January 2025 was performed using Medline Cochrane Library. Results: Despite being central mineralization, colitis relatively scarce, deriving mostly from mixed inflammatory bowel disease cohorts. Although lower than controls, approaches recommended daily allowance, which establishes necessary nutrients. Conversely, K deficiencies highly prevalent widely shared opinion that milk lactose-containing foods, vegetables, worsen diarrhea a prime determinant inadequate intake. Conclusions: Increased awareness importance nutrition common occurrence represents first step intervention strategies counteract increased risk osteoporosis
