There is no established consensus or standardized method for the preparation of amniotic membrane extract (AME). Consequently, various preparation, preservation, and sterilization techniques have been employed. To obtain AME rich in bioactive components with high therapeutic efficacy, each step process critical importance. The appropriate procurement minimizes risk infection transmission reduces inter- intra-donor variability. For subsequent extraction process, different approaches are utilized due to factors such as laboratory infrastructure variability lack a method. Although lyophilization has recently emerged prominent long-term preservation AME, further investigation required assess its impact on biochemical composition clinical efficacy membrane. In ophthalmology, vitro, vivo, studies indicate that supports corneal epithelial regeneration, suppresses inflammation, well-tolerated agent. still needed enhance effective release from membrane, improve quality consistency preserve content over an extended period. Thus, application AME-derived products form eye drops will become more widespread future.
