The survival of species heavily depends on social behaviors, which in turn rely the ability to recognize conspecifics within an appropriate environmental context. These behaviors are regulated by hypothalamus, processes signals from both external environment (such as food availability, photoperiod, and chemical cues other animals) internal state (including sex, estrous cycle stage, nutritional status, levels stress). Understanding brain circuits responsible for specific experimental animals is a complex task given intricate interactions between these factors diverse behavioral strategies employed different species. In this review, we will critically evaluate recent studies focused ventral premammillary nucleus (PMv) discuss findings that reveal PMv key, yet sometimes overlooked, node integrating cues. We examine its structural components, connectivity, humoral influences, associated functions, demonstrating role neural regulation neuroendocrine responses behaviors.
