Nuclear receptors (NRs) are a superfamily of transcription factors that involved in various pathophysiological processes. The human genome contains 48 types nuclear receptors, including steroid hormone (e.g., estrogen receptor [ER] and vitamin D [VDR]), nonsteroid (e.g. peroxisome proliferator-activated [PPAR] retinoic acid [RAR]), orphan neuron-derived clone 77 [Nur77] testicular 4 [TR4]) certain specifically overexpressed tumor cells or surrounding normal tissues. Radiotherapy is one the main methods treatment, but radioresistance tumors radiotoxicity to tissues strongly affect radiotherapy efficacy. Accumulating evidence has indicated critical role modulators (including agonists antagonists) as promising radiosensitizers through mechanisms. In addition, several their alleviate tissue toxicity during radiotherapy. Thus, serve novel targets for radiosensitization protecting from radiation damage. This review summarizes research progress highlights synergistic strategy
