Conventional inspections in car damage assessments depend on visual judgments by human inspectors, which are labor-intensive and prone to fraudulent practices through manipulating damages. Recent advancements artificial intelligence have given rise a state-of-the-art object detection algorithm, the You Only Look Once algorithm (YOLO), that sets new standard smart automated assessment. This study proposes an enhanced YOLOv9 network tailored detect six types of damage. The enhancements include convolutional block attention module (CBAM), applied backbone layer enhance model’s ability focus key damaged regions, SCYLLA-IoU (SIoU) loss function, introduced for bounding box regression. To be able assess severity comprehensively, we propose novel formula named index (DSI) quantifying directly from images, integrating multiple factors such as number detected damages, ratio image size, confidence, type Experimental results CarDD dataset show proposed model outperforms YOLO algorithms 1.75% DSI demonstrates intuitive assessment with numbers, aiding repair decisions.
