Brain development is a complex process that begins during pregnancy, and the events occurring this sensitive period can affect offspring's neurodevelopmental outcomes. Respiratory viral infections are frequently reported in pregnant women, and, last few decades, they have been related to numerous neuropsychiatric sequelae. viruses disrupt brain by directly invading fetal circulation through vertical transmission or inducing neuroinflammation maternal immune activation production of inflammatory cytokines. Influenza virus gestational infection has consistently associated with psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia autism spectrum disorder, while recent pandemic raised some concerns regarding effects severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 on outcomes children born affected mothers. In addition, emerging evidence supports possible role syncytial risk factor for adverse consequences. Understanding mechanisms underlying developmental dysfunction allows improving preventive strategies, early diagnosis, prompt interventions.

Abstract General movements (GMs) have been widely used for the early clinical evaluation of infant brain development, allowing immediate potential development disorders and timely rehabilitation. The infants’ general can be captured digitally, but lack quantitative assessment well‐trained pediatricians presents an obstacle many years to achieve wider deployment, especially in low‐resource settings. There is a high explore wearable sensors movement analysis due outstanding privacy, low cost, easy‐to‐use features. This work sparse sensor network with soft wireless IMU devices (SWDs) automatic infants. consisting only five nodes robust mechanical properties excellent biocompatibility continuously stably captures full‐body motion data. proof‐of‐the‐concept testing 23 infants showcases performance recognizing neonatal activities, confirming reliability system. Taken together tiny machine learning algorithm, system automatically identify risky based on GMs, accuracy up 100% (99.9%). artificial intelligence‐based algorithm facilitates intelligent diagnosis disorders.

The purpose this systematic review was to evaluate consideration field medicine. We searched five different databases (Scopus, Web Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, IEEE Xplore) for relevant studies include review. On these databases, we found 524 studies, which were retrieved EndNote X6.0.1 software, where 207 removed as duplicates, rest assessed eligibility with exclusion inclusion criteria. Abstract Background The development of advanced genetic technologies has resulted in rapid identification etiologies neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and transformed the classification diagnosis various NDDs. However, diagnostic genetics far outpaced our ability to provide timely medical counseling, guidance, care for patients with genetically defined These their caregivers present an unmet need coordination across multiple domains including medical, developmental, psychiatric educational resources guidance from professionals. After a is made, families also face several barriers access informed evaluations support. Methods As part Care Research Neurogenetics (CARING), multidisciplinary clinical program children adults neurogenetic disorders, we conducted qualitative interviews about journey families. This included overall timeline receiving diagnoses, experiences before after diagnosis, care, that helped them navigate process. Results A total 37 were parents ages 16 months 33 years. Several key themes identified: (1) delays between initial caregiver observations formal developmental or diagnoses; (2) practical evaluation long wait times appointment, lack insurance coverage, availability local evaluations, transportation difficulties, native language differences; (3) importance being patient advocacy group help journey; (4) unique challenges faced by (18 years older). Conclusions Families complex disabilities numerous finding adequate services child. They experience considerable diagnoses significant further delay process needed child’s continued care. gaps indicated this study speak more comprehensive intellectual disabilities, as well systematic, disorder-specific both providers order improve outcomes.

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) are impairments of the growth and development brain and/or central nervous system. In light clinical findings on early diagnosis NDD prompted by recent advances in hardware software technologies, several researchers tried to introduce automatic systems analyse baby's movement, even cribs. Traditional technologies for baby motion analysis leverage contact sensors. Alternatively, remotely acquired video data (e.g., RGB or depth) can be used, with without active/passive markers positioned body. Markerless approaches easier set up maintain (without any human intervention) they work well non-collaborative users, making them most suitable applications involving children. On other hand, require complex computational strategies extracting knowledge from data, then, strongly depend computer vision machine learning, which among expanding areas research. As a consequence, also markerless video-based movements children has been rapidly but, best our knowledge, there is not yet survey paper providing broad overview how scientific developments impacted it. Abstract Background Early neurodevelopmental care needs better, effective and objective solutions for assessing infants’ motor abilities. Novel wearable technology opens possibilities characterizing spontaneous movement behavior. This work seeks to construct validate a generalizable, scalable, method measure abilities across all milestones from lying supine fluent walking. Methods A multi-sensor infant was constructed, 59 infants (age 5–19 months) were recorded during their play. novel gross description scheme used human visual classification of postures movements at second-level time resolution. deep learning -based classifier then trained mimic annotations, aggregated recording-level outputs provide posture- movement-specific developmental trajectories, which enabled more holistic assessments maturity. Results Recordings technically successful in infants, the algorithmic analysis showed human-equivalent-level accuracy quantifying observed movements. The recordings train an algorithm predicting measure, Baba Infant Motor Score (BIMS). index estimates maturity abilities, it correlates very strongly (Pearson’s r = 0.89, p < 1e-20) chronological age infant. Conclusions results show that out-of-hospital assessment ability is possible using wearable. provides metrics motility are transparent, objective, intuitively interpretable, they link age. Such solution could be automated scaled global extent, holding promise functional benchmarking individualized patient or early intervention trials.
