Cognitive impairments are frequently observed in subjects with severe mental illnesses (SMI), leading to a remarkable impact their real-world functioning. Well-validated and gold standard instruments available for the assessment of cognitive deficits, but different limitations should be considered, such as need specific training, lengthy administration times, practice effects, or reliance on subjective reports. Recent advances digital technologies, ecological momentary assessments (EMA), virtual reality (VR), passive phenotyping (DP), offer promising complementary approaches capturing In current mini-review, we examine research gaps that limit application these focus feasibility, reliability validity. EMA may capture functioning by increasing number evaluations throughout day, its use might hindered high participant burden missing data. Furthermore, achieve an accurate interpretation EMA, studies account sampling moment selection biases presence several confounding factors. DP faces significant ethical logistical challenges, including privacy informed consent concerns, well challenges data interpretation. VR could serve platform both more ecologically valid rehabilitation interventions, barriers include technological psychometric limitations, underdeveloped theoretical frameworks, considerations. Addressing issues is crucial ensuring novel technologies can effectively valuable complements traditional neuropsychological batteries.

(1) Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic and progressive neuropsychiatric illness. Apart from positive negative symptoms, 98% of the population diagnosed with schizophrenia have impaired cognitive functioning, which significantly influences quality life. The correlation between lipids functioning has been well established. Our study aimed to investigate correlations functions, severity lipid profiles. (2) Methods: Fifty-two women participated in this study. Cognitive was measured using Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Positive Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS) used. serum profile, including low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), high-density (HDLs), triglycerides measured. (3) Results: Better functions were associated normal HDL levels, while low levels correlated worse WSCT scores. Only PANSS subscale showed levels. Correlations chronicity patient’s age poorer but not symptom severity, detected. Early/late at onset did influence (4) Conclusions: results suggest high might be protective factor against impairment. illness duration also play vital role performance.

ABSTRACT Background Studies have shown associations between polygenic risk scores for educational attainment (PRS EA ), cognitive reserve (CR), cognition, negative symptoms (NS), and psychosocial functioning in first‐episode psychosis (FEP). However, their specific interactions remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of CR, NS relationship PRS one year after a FEP. Additionally, we sought explore impact two subtypes on this relationship: diminished Expression (EXP‐NS) Motivation Pleasure (MAP‐NS). Methods A total 138 FEP participants, predominantly male (70%), with mean age 24.77 years (SD = 5.29), underwent genetic, clinical, assessments months enrollment. Functioning evaluation followed at one‐year follow‐up. To role functioning, serial mediation model was employed. Two further models were tested differential EXP‐NS MAP‐NS. Mediation analysis performed using PROCESS macro version 4.1 within SPSS 26. Results The revealed causal chain > CR cognition ( β −3.08, 95%CI [−5.73, −0.43], p 0.023). When differentiating by type NS, only significantly associated casual −0.17, 95% CI [−0.39, −0.01], < 0.05). Conclusions ‐specifically EXP‐NS‐ mediate association follow‐up patients. These results highlight potential personalized interventions based genetic predisposition.

Negative symptoms and cognitive deficits play a major role in psychosis significantly influence the functional outcomes of patients, particularly those with first episode (FEP). However, limited research has explored predictive capacity during FEP for subsequent negative symptomatology. Drawing from Athens study, we conducted retrospective longitudinal study 80 individuals FEP. All patients were drug naive at admission. Cognitive tests administered 1-month 1-year post-admission, while symptomatology was assessed same time points using PANSS by trained raters. We considered confounding factors such as age, gender, duration untreated (DUP), treatment received, premorbid social adjustment, IQ. Univariate regression analysis identified domains that correlated These, along confounders, incorporated into multiple regression, scale serving dependent variable. Employing backward elimination technique, found statistically significant inverse relationship between categories completed Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST) PANNS (p = 0.01), beyond associations DUP scale.
