Over the past two decades, fields of social and contemplative neurosciences have made significant strides. Initial research utilizing fMRI identified neuronal networks involved in empathy, mentalizing, compassion, as well complex interactions among these networks. Subsequent studies shifted to testing plasticity skills via different types mindfulness- or compassion-based mental training programs, demonstrating brain plasticity, enhanced capacities motivation, improved health overall well-being. Next, researchers developed scalable evidence-based online programs address growing levels problems loneliness, both exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic. Innovative approaches, such novel relational partner-based practices app-based dyadic offer solutions counteract ongoing societal deterioration.
