Due to a continuous increase in life expectancy and the progress made specialized healthcare, incidence of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has dramatically increased point that it become one main challenges contemporary medicine. Despite huge scientific clinical effort, current treatments manage just temporary alleviation symptomatology but offer no cure. Modern trials involving cell transplantation experimental animals require involvement neurosurgeons treatment protocol. CSF shunting, intraventricular infusions, or DBS for symptoms relief have been an integral part therapeutic arsenal from very beginning. The development stereotactic surgery facilitated potential hippocampus disease. We conducted narrative review literature top three medical databases (PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar) using keywords “Alzheimer’s disease”, “hippocampus”, “transplant”. After eliminating duplicates, 241 papers were selected screened by title abstract. Two reviewers independently analyzed 88 chose 32 experiments involved hippocampal cells with AD. such as mesenchymal stem (MSCs), neuronal (NSCs), induced pluripotent (iPSCs), astrocytes, derivates was analyzed. used either chemically transgenic AD model observed impact behavioral testing, MRS spectroscopy, biochemical analysis. stereotaxic method delivers minimal invasive option at hippocampus. results showed amyloid deposits lower after transplantation, showing positive impact. Other impactful involve proliferation neurogenesis, downregulation anti-inflammatory response, plasticity. precision which manages target deep structures brain reviewed could represent argument future human trials. More studies are needed confirm viability transplanted long-term effects.
