Introduction Endurance running is a popular activity with varying motivations, yet the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on these motivations has not been thoroughly explored. This study investigates how SES (income, education, vocational status) shapes three groups runners: recreational runners (RRs), marathoners (MAs), and ultramarathoners (Us) in Poland. Methods A large-scale online survey ( N = 1,539) was conducted between January March 2008, capturing participants’ demographic characteristics, experience, motivation. Results The results reveal differences motivational priorities across groups. Us were more motivated by achievement self-esteem, while RRs prioritized social affiliation, showed balance two. However, reported effect sizes η 2 0.01) suggest that exist, they are small practical significance. Higher-SES individuals focused achievement-related goals, lower-SES emphasized health benefits connection. analysis also found higher-SES participants likely to complete marathons ultramarathons, financial stability professional access playing key role. Background/Objectives: Sport persistence, defined as an athlete’s behavioural commitment to sport, is influenced by various psychological, social, and environmental factors. This study examines sport persistence using ecological framework, incorporating Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological model Bauman’s multi-level physical activity model.
